Hope stole our heart from the first. She is a beautiful 2 year old. She lives in a home made up of three 10' x 10' rooms. Her mother and her mother's two sisters each have one of the rooms. The mother's brother lives there as well. In addition to these 4 adults, there were 14 children. 18 people share 300 sq. ft. The home had been severely damaged by Hurricane Dean. The little lean-to kitchen area was destroyed. The women had to cook outside with no cover for about 4 months. In one month, it rained every day. The tin roof leaked severely. You can see the noon sun casting a circle of light on Hope's bed above. Seven people slept on two mattresses in Hope's room.
You might ask why so many children live in such a crowded house. Obviously, by our standards, there had been little family planning. It is a problem that needs to be and has been addressed to some degree, but what about the children? They are precious; they are God's creation. We are to help the children, the poor, the least of these.
Isaiahsixeight decided to help Hope, her cousins and siblings. We replaced and repaired much of the roof, built on two small kitchens, as well as built and repaired several doors and windows. Hope's life is much better. We gave hope to Hope.
